Well everything is fine except for a bit of tweaking.
I was over at ivman's blog for a visit. He posts some funny stuff one of which was about genealogy with this quote:
."Why waste your money looking up your family tree? Just go into politics and your opponents will do it for you." — Mark Twain
His post got me to thinking about my genealogy project which I have neglected for a few years.I have four binders full of info that only needs organization and time to do so.(wadda ya mean boy ur retired aint ya? All the time in the world ,eh)
Where was I? oh ya. I have traced my father's side as far back as 1785 when the family came to PEI after being kicked out of the US for staying loyal to George III . I cant fully document their time in the american colonies other than a site that claimed an ancestor came to Long Island in the late seventeenth century after the British took control of New Amsterdam ,now New York.My surname is fairly common in Holland and in the old Palatinate region of Germany even though we have always thought that on Dad's side we were English or Welsh.
Now on my mother's side its Irish all the way and as she was fond of to tell me royalty no less as in Niall Noigiallach or Niall of the Nine Hostages a legendary Irish High King.
A niece has traced the family to northern Ireland but only as far back as my great grandfather. My mom's maiden name was Oneill. She had two red haired brothers and three red haired children. She was born in Canada her father was born in Ireland as was her grandmother and grandfather.Unless I or my niece find a Oneill family tree with these family members on it we will have come to a dead end.
It wasn't egoism that got me interested in the family tree;it was wanting to find out if any of the stories about the family that I heard as a child were true or myths. As I dug I began to see how much it was like detective work with its clues, leads and dead ends. So far no villains found just a couple of suicides way back.
